Acting my age

You know you live in a rural farming town when you’re sitting on the sofa on your 50th birthday and out of the corner of your eye you spy your friends walking up the drive with a wheelbarrow full of hydrangeas and fizzy wine. Suffice to say, when they left 2 hours later one of them departed in the actual wheelbarrow being pushed by the other, whilst shouting the instruction, “Deborah don’t forget to water the hydrangea!” “I won’t,” I shouted back, not convinced I would. But actually now that I’m no longer a child, somehow remarkably I did remember to do it, and the hydrangea isn’t dead yet. So maybe I actually am a proper grown up now.
