We had two days child free in Cambridge, so we headed straight to the Fitzwilliam Museum to look at the art. Our teenagers aren’t into art at all, so we took full advantage of the opportunity to visit a gallery moan-free.

We headed straight to the first floor to see a painting by Botticelli on loan from the National Gallery in London.

I struggled to see much of the painting. I saw the back of lots of heads of people who were probably struggling to see the painting too. If I held the phone up high and took a photo I could see that there was a picture that the heads were looking at. It made me want to paint the people looking at the painting. Some people took photos of the painting and other people took selfies with the painting. Different people were waiting to come into the room to look at the back of lots of heads too so after 30 seconds I moved on because I felt pressured to let someone else have a turn at the hair and hats. Somewhere in the back of my mind I gave a thought that a few years back a bloke stood and made the painting. I’m not quite sure what it’s all about. I’ll need to read about it in a book or on an iPad.

We loved the cafe. Everyone knows that’s the best bit anyway.
