In the late ’90s and early ’00s I moved to London and worked in fashion buying and supply offices. My very first boss there was called Lou – from Cornwall and with a heart of gold. We laughed our way through some extremely stressful situations and cut our business teeth in the rag trade – wheeling and dealing that needed to be done to get product into store for the right delivery date. Extremely hard work and long hours, fighting cloth mills and factories whilst charming store buyers all over the world. It was exciting and it was very, very fast.

Lou moved back to Cornwall to have her wonderful family, and when she heard about my leukaemia diagnosis she kindly invited me to stay in her cottage by the sea for a few days with my family. So that’s what we’re doing next week. I jokingly told her that I was bringing the kids’ swimming things. “Brilliant,” she said. “You can come in with me. I go for a dip every day.” Absolute nails. It’s the end of October, I haven’t got a wetsuit and I haven’t got one of those lovely dry robes that people have either, so next week you’ll find me being a salty sea dog in a tankini in the sea off the North Cornish coast drying myself with a beach towel I bought in the summer. And what’s more, I couldn’t be happier about it. Tough as old boots and laughing – just the way me and Lou always were.

There’s 20% OFF everything, including our nightshirts, this week with the code FB20 and there’s free Express Delivery on all orders over £75 plus there’s 90-day returns at the moment too. So if you wanted to get your Christmas shopping in early then you can do so safe in the knowledge that you can swap or refund in January should you need to.
