We had a supplier come to see us about 8 weeks ago. He was from Copenhagen and we gave him a guided tour of the building. I introduced him to the team – there were about 10 people in that day.

“We’re a growing team,” I said proudly, like a mother hen. “Jane’s not here though today because she’s lambing.” He looked at me like he’d heard what I said but didn’t believe it could possibly be right and was wondering if it was something lost in translation.

“What did you say?” he asked.

“Jane has March, April and some of May off for lambing. She lives on one of our local hill farms and needs to be up all night through all weathers to make sure her flock of fabulous rare breeds are all OK. So she just has those weeks off and comes back when her last sheep have lambed.”

He stared at me open mouthed and then roared with laughter.

“That’s the most British thing I’ve ever heard!”

His shocked laughter made the team crack up too. I suppose when you’re working in fashion in the UK you’re usually in London… sometimes in Manchester. Not usually in Leek right next to the Peak District, but there we go.

Customer service sorted. Lambs are all Ok. Flock has grown. Everything’s as it should be!

Use the code SPRING20 if you’d like 20% OFF this week, even if it’s on discounted products. We’ll probably change that code out in the next few days as we move towards summer, so do use it as soon as you can!
