British Boxers has been around for more than 13 years now. When my husband and I set the business up, we’d had a really difficult couple of years. Our 2-year-old had been very poorly since birth and had finally been diagnosed with a lifelong disability called Williams Syndrome. We’d escaped London to move to a town on the edge of the Peak District after my other half had been offered a job in Stoke-on-Trent. I’d kept my London job but was up and down the country… often on no sleep. I was exhausted.

A couple of years after that he was made redundant from his new job, and it was in a wine-fuelled heart-to-heart I told him I needed to leave my job too and set up a business. I can remember he just stared at me like I was mad. We weren’t rich. We literally had £4,000 we’d saved up in an ISA and that was our rainy day fund. But we cracked on regardless. When you get a diagnosis like our Martha’s, nothing is scary after that moment. Nothing at all. This is something I’ve shared with her too, and I think she understands it. I‘ve told her often that she made us brave.

Anyway, we started the business by telling the story of my 3 x great grandfather, Jem Mace. He’d been the first World Heavyweight boxing champion in 1870, and I liked the idea that his literal fight emulated what felt like a fight for ours and Martha’s future. It all tied together with the narrative of the business, plus there was a factory close by who said they could make boxer shorts for us. The name had to be British Boxers. It just fell together. So this week I wanted to share the story of that journey and some images of our wonderful boxer shorts

I love that when we sell these we’re helping to grow our economy and providing jobs too. There’s 20% OFF everything at British Boxers this week when you use the code WINTER20 on the website.

Have a lovely week all!
X Deb
