The Apprentice
My heart is full. Oh my days! My daughter attends sixth form at a special school down the road, and the whole class have just come to our office and warehouse to find out what an e-comm business does. First off, we showed them all the exciting touchy-feely design bits, and then we showed them all photos of celebs in our things and influencers on Instagram. They loved all of that. I told them I’d had to employ a 21-year-old to do the TikToks because it’s totally beyond me. “You lot would be brilliant at that,” I told them. They started to laugh.
Then we took them into the warehouse. I got Darren (*note to health and safety - this is my husband not one of the kids) on the pallet stacker. We explained to the kids that Darren and Sian are brilliant at working the pallet stacker but that me and Julie are rubbish at it, so we don’t do that bit. There are other people, but we are the 4 that had the training (*signs off the health and safety*).
Then some of the students worked on a pick list in the warehouse. When they returned to the office with their goodies to pack the orders, one student in particular started to shine. He absolutely loved it. He put your orders in the packet with the order slip, he added the postage label to the parcel then he had to read the label to see whether it was Royal Mail 48 or Royal Mail 24. Julie told him that the postman comes in his van at 2.30pm to collect all the sacks of mail. When the sack was full he picked it up and put a cable tie around the top. We showed him how to carry it into the warehouse and leave it near the door ready for the postman. One of his friends said, “You just need a cloak and a beard and you’d be Santa!” His face lit up and so did our hearts. Honestly, it’s been the most joyful morning ever.
