About 8 years ago my husband and I had the idea for British Boxers. We opened a second bottle of wine, and he and I sat at the table putting the world to rights. What do you do when one of you has been made redundant, your kid’s just been diagnosed with a lifelong disability and the future is looking pretty bleak? Erm. You jack in your job too and set up a business all of your own with your only savings. It’s not something I’d recommend for the faint-hearted, but to be honest I didn’t think life could get much worse. So it was worth giving it a go. If we lost the house, I didn’t really care at that point. Plus the wine was kicking in.

The reason I’m telling you this is because we called the business British Boxers as a nod to my 3x great-grandfather – Jem Mace (pictured). He’d been the first World Heavyweight boxing champion back in 1870, and I loved the history of his rags-to-riches-to-rags story. It felt like the fights I was having professionally and personally emulated his literal ones more than a century earlier – plus we began by making boxer shorts in Britain. It all seemed to fit together perfectly. We’ve just added his story to the website, and if you’re interested you can read it here.

On the website this week the discount code BB10 is still giving 10% off all full-priced products. The lucky dips in stretch trunks and hipster briefs are coming out in lovely new colours, and there are still free face masks on orders over £30.

Stay safe!
