Zumba!
Kids are so different, aren’t they? My eldest has learning disability and I have to push her to do anything. The youngest spends his time doing things like homework and exercise and has set his sights on going to a fancy university built out of red bricks.
In a bid to get the eldest (and me) to move more, I booked us onto a Zumba class at the newly opened gym in town. We’ve been to 4 sessions so far. (Auto correct just amended “so far” into “so fat” – mild offence taken)
The first session our Martha hated until one of the teachers, Tracy, dragged us to the front of the class so we could see what was happening. Under my inspirational leadership my daughter and I had been trying to hide at the back. As it happens, because we’re both massive show offs, we quite liked being at the front and we started to enjoy it. I noticed that the music was so fast that by the time the teacher had done 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 moves, Martha and I were still working out where to put our arms for number 2. It didn’t matter, we were moving and most importantly we were smiling.
You know what the best thing I’ve learned about exercise and learning is? That it’s absolutely OK to be the worst one in the room. You just need to be in the room and keep being in the room, that’s all.
I’ve booked us onto our next class.
